White shepherd history is checkered and controversy still follows them worldwide.
These dogs are known by many names white Swiss shepherd, white German shepherd, Berger Blanc Suisse, Witte Herder but they are all derived from the German shepherd breed.
Originally German shepherds of white coat colour were not penalised; but time passed and the breed standard developed and the coat colour white became unacceptable.
In many parts of the world white shepherds were bred as a 'breed apart'. Now they are accepted by different country's breed clubs under many different names.
White shepherds first began to gain public recognition in Australia in 2000.
